Staff Correspondent: A Habiganj court on Wednesday ordered five people to life term imprisonment for killing a schoolboy in 2009.
The lifers are Rony, Helal Uddin Turky, Akter Mia, Saddam and Niaz. Of them, Rony, Helal and Saddam were tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, the convicts used to demand money from their classmate Kaisar Ahmed Toukir, a class VIII student of Habiganj Government High School and son of Abdul Barik, a resident of Inatabad area in the district town.
On September 20, 2009, some of the convicts demanded Tk 5,000 from Toukir.
As Toukirs father could know the matter he informed it to the parents of the convicts.
Being angered, Niaz called Toukir over phone to come to the school on September 24, 2009 where Rony and Helal stabbed Toukir indiscriminately, leaving him injured.
Later, he died on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Abdul Barik, father of the victim, recorded a case against 12 people. Moreover, Police submitted chargehseet againt 13 people.
After inquiring into the records and the witnesses, Habiganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Mafroza Parvin handed down the verdict acquitting eight other accused as allegation brought against them could not be proved.
