Prime Minister Tarique Rahman attended as the chief guest at the event organized in Senakunja, Dhaka Cantonment, on the occasion of International UN Peacekeepers’ Day. At this event, family members of Bangladeshi peacekeepers who sacrificed their lives while serving in UN peacekeeping missions were honored.
The Prime Minister joined this event, held at Senakunja in Dhaka Cantonment, around 10 AM on Wednesday (June 10).
Earlier, on the occasion of the day, the Prime Minister, in his message, highly praised the professionalism, efficiency, and human values of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in establishing world peace.
He mentioned that Bangladesh is currently one of the top contributing countries of peacekeepers to UN missions. In particular, the role and expertise of Bangladeshi women peacekeepers in international peacekeeping operations are being praised globally, serving as a shining example of women’s empowerment and national development.
Recalling the peacekeepers’ contributions to enhancing the country’s prestige on the international stage, the Prime Minister emphasized building a safe and peaceful world based on mutual respect, cooperation, and tolerance.
International UN Peacekeepers’ Day is observed annually on May 29. This year, due to a public holiday on that day, the day is being celebrated on June 10.
Notably, 25 members of the Bangladesh Police have sacrificed their lives while serving in peacekeeping missions.
