Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that anyone attempting to create instability in the country under the guise of worker protests will be suppressed with a firm hand.
He alleged that a certain quarter is attempting to implement a different agenda by exploiting the worker movement. He also commented that they intend to create an unstable situation in the country at the behest of forces from across the border.
The Home Minister made these remarks to journalists after a meeting with leaders of ready-made garment factory owners at the Ministry of Home Affairs conference room in the Secretariat at 11:00 AM on Monday (November 2).
Salahuddin Ahmed stated that attempts are being made to create instability on the streets under the guise of protests. He warned that strict measures would be taken against anyone who tries to destabilize the country in the name of worker movements or engages in activities outside the law.
He said, “I want to make it clear to those who attempt to destabilize the country in the name of worker protests or engage in any activities outside the law, that they will be suppressed with a firm hand.”
The Home Minister further added, “There are some cohorts of fallen forces here. Those who attempted to create instability these past few days were not ordinary workers. Many are trying to destabilize the country at the behest of forces from across the border to implement a different agenda.”
At this time, outlining the government’s stance on closing industrial factories, he said, the current government does not wish to shut down any industrial factories. This is because the livelihoods of a large number of workers are associated with these establishments.
He stated that the government aims to keep industrial factory operations active, taking into consideration the workers’ livelihoods.
