The government has vehemently condemned and protested the deaths of two Bangladeshi nationals in an attack by Houthis at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
This condemnation and protest were articulated in a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (October 11).
The release stated that the attack, which occurred on October 10, resulted in extensive casualties. Two Bangladeshis tragically lost their lives, and many others sustained injuries, with several reportedly in critical condition.
The Bangladesh Mission in Riyadh is actively engaging with Saudi authorities to gather detailed information on the deceased and injured Bangladeshis and to ensure that necessary assistance is provided to the victims.
The Government of Bangladesh has conveyed its profound sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the families of those who perished. Concurrently, it has wished a swift and complete recovery for the injured.
The statement further emphasized that endangering civilian lives and targeting civilian infrastructure are utterly unacceptable under any circumstances. It called for an immediate cessation of such attacks. Bangladesh reiterated its unwavering solidarity with the government and people of Saudi Arabia in the wake of this incident.
In light of the ongoing crisis, Bangladesh appealed for an immediate end to hostilities, guaranteed protection for civilians and infrastructure, and a peaceful resolution to the conflict through dialogue and diplomacy, all in the interest of regional peace, security, and stability.
