The Christian Welfare Trust had requested a grant of two crore Taka for the celebration of Christmas, the largest religious festival of the Christian community. However, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has instructed to provide three crore Taka, which is one crore Taka more than the requested amount.

On Monday (November 2), the Prime Minister approved the allocation of three crore Taka in a summary sent by the Ministry of Religious Affairs regarding this matter.

This fund was proposed to be allocated from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund through the Ministry of Religious Affairs for the celebration of ‘Christmas 2026’, the main religious festival of Christians, on upcoming December 25.

A summary sent to the Prime Minister by the Ministry of Religious Affairs stated that initiatives have been taken to conduct religious and social welfare activities in various parts of the country through the Christian Welfare Trust on the occasion of Christmas. A special grant from the Prime Minister’s Relief and Welfare Fund was proposed for this purpose.

The summary mentioned that a proposal for allocating two crore Taka for Christmas has also been made for the current year, 2026. The Prime Minister’s gracious approval was sought for allocating this fund to the Christian Welfare Trust.

However, the Prime Minister instructed to provide three crore Taka instead of the proposed two crore Taka.

Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Mostofa Zulfiqar Hasan confirmed this information.
