Awami League general secretary and also the road transport and bridges minister, Obaidul Quader, on Thursday said the Bangladesh Nationalist Party became happy after the canceling of the 16th amendment to the constitution but their dream to go to power was shattered.
The minister came up with remarks after placing a floral wreath at the grave of Ivy Rahman, former president of Bangladesh Mahila Awami League, at Banani graveyard in the city.
‘BNP leaders planned to wage a movement against the government and saw colourful dreams to go to power but their dreams seemed to be fading away,’he said.
The Awami League leaders placed wreaths at the grave of Ivy Rahman, who had received critical injuries during the grisly grenade attack on an Awami League rally at Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka on August 21 in 2004.
She succumbed to her injuries on August 24.
The trial of the grenade attack case would end during the present regime of the government, added Quader.
Central leaders of the party Abdur Rahman, Ahmad Hossain, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Abdus Sobhan Golap, Sujit Roy Nandi and others joined the programme.
