The Democratic Party has taken control of the Senate in the US midterm elections. Democratic candidates have won seats previously held by Republicans in Texas, South Carolina, Iowa, and Kansas. With this development, President Donald Trump’s Republican Party has lost its majority in the upper house of Congress.

This information was reported by Qatar-based news agency Al Jazeera on Wednesday (November 4).

The report stated that Democrats have secured control of the Senate after vote counting in various US states. Results have been progressively released since polling concluded on Tuesday. However, the final outcome for some electoral seats may require waiting until Wednesday or even later.

In this election, voting is being held for 35 out of 100 Senate seats. Among these, Democrats have successfully taken over Republican-held seats in Texas, South Carolina, Iowa, and Kansas.

Additionally, elections are being held for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives. Voting is also taking place for governorships in 36 states.

This midterm election is widely viewed as a crucial political test for President Donald Trump’s potential second term. Losing control of the Senate could significantly increase political challenges for the Trump administration regarding legislation, approving key government appointments, and overseeing various administrative activities.

However, vote counting continues to determine who will control the House of Representatives. Therefore, further election results are awaited to establish the final balance of power between the two chambers of Congress.
