Devastating Warning for 8 Nations Including Bangladesh

The sudden ice avalanches and devastating floods occurring at the Nepal-Tibet border are not merely local incidents; they represent a severe disaster for the entire ecological system.

This incident serves as a major warning for eight countries, including Bangladesh, that directly and indirectly rely on the Himalayan mountain range for survival. Scientists have warned that this perilous situation is becoming increasingly complex due to the rapid melting of Himalayan ice caused by global warming.

When ice avalanches or mountain flash floods begin at the mountain peaks, river water instantaneously rushes towards the plains. Due to its location at the downstream end of the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna basins, any upstream deluge directly impacts Bangladesh. This climate change poses an increased risk of sudden floods, river erosion, and untimely mountain torrents many times over in the coming days.

Experts strongly emphasize that it is no longer possible to manage such disasters by staying within individual national borders. The eight countries in this region, including Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan, China, and Pakistan, must now come together under one umbrella. There is no alternative to a joint system for exchanging early mountain weather information and monitoring the dynamics of rivers. Delivering timely advance warnings of disasters could save thousands of lives and properties.
