Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal today told journalists that the main task of the Election Commission (EC) is to conduct elections in accordance with the law and the constitution.
The CEC said they would discharge their duties with due diligence, sincerity and honesty and want to organize any election in cooperation with all parties.
The new EC would work to strengthen democracy by conducting elections with participation of all parties, Habibul Awal added. He made the remarks while responding to the journalists at Chattogram Regional Election Commission building this evening.
�Whether it is a national election or a local government election, our responsibility is to ensure that all parties participate in the elections in the light of the law,� he added.
Regional Election Officer Mohammad Hasanuzzaman, Senior District Election Officer Jahangir Hossain and Additional District Election Officer Kamrul Islam were present on the occasion.
EC sources said, the CEC has come to Chattogram on a four-day visit. He will start for his village home in Sandwip on Saturday morning and stay there.
He will attend the smart card distribution ceremony in Sandwip upazila at 11 am on Sunday and return to Chattogram from Sandwip on Monday morning. He will leave for Dhaka on that day.
