Different organization of hawkers on Tuesday morning gathered infront of National Press Club protesting the move of their eviction from commercial areas without rehabilitation attempt by the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
Alliance of sixteen hawker organizations ‘Hawker Somonnoy Porishad’ called for making a rehabilitation policy for them.
Around 1,200 hawkers from different streets of the capital gathered in front of the press club around 11:00am and held the two-and-a-half-hour long rally in favour of a 10-point demand including a stop to the eviction drive without prior rehabilitation.
As the city authorities have been grappling with this problem since long, they have already started the eviction drive in the capital’s Gulistan area.
The authorities are firm to its decision to keep Gulistan's streets free from street vendors during office hours, sources said.
