Fifth death anniversary of Humayun Ahmed today

Various cultural organizations will observe late renowned fiction writer, playwright and popular film director Humayun Ahmed’s 5th death anniversary by organising different programmes today.

Theatre troupe Mad Theatre will stage its popular play ‘Noddi O Notim’ at the Studio Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in the evening. Written and directed by Asadul Islam, the play, which follows the story of an autistic child named Komol, has been inspired by popular writer Humayun Ahmed’s novel Ke Kotha Koy.

Cultural organisation Shilpito will pay tribute to Humayun Ahmed through a programme at the VIP Seminar Hall of Central public Library at 5pm today.

Different television channels of the country will telecast special programmes marking the day. Channel i will air special programmes like talk show, films, teleplays and others on the occasion.

The channel will telecast special episodes of Tritiyo Matra and Gaane Gaane Sokal Suru and air Meher Afroz Shaon directed film Krishnopokkho, which is an adaptation of Humayun Ahmed’s novel with the same title, at 2:30pm. A debate show Amar Maddhomei Beche Thakben Humayun will be aired on at 6:30pm. Besides, the channel will also telecast a telefilm Rupar Jonno Bhalobasa at 7:20pm.

Banglavision will air a phono-live musical show at 11:35pm. Eminent singer-musician SI Tutul will sing Humayun Ahmed’s songs at the programme.

Born in Kutubpur of Netrakona district on November 13 in 1948, Humayun Ahmed ruled the hearts of Bangla fiction readers for over four decades. He wrote a total of 200 fictions in his lifetime. He was also a distinguished dramatist, film and drama serial maker. A number of drama serials directed by Humayun Ahmed including Ei Shob Din Ratri, Bohubrihi, Ayomoy and Kothao Keu Nei were aired on BTV.

Humayun Ahmed received numerous awards including Lekhak Shibir Prize (1973), Bangla Academy Award (1981), Shishu Academy Award, Jainul Abedin Gold Medal, Michael Madhusudan Medal (1987), Bacsas Prize (1988), Humayun Qadir Memorial Prize (1990), National Film Award (Best Story 1993, Best Film 1994, Best Dialogue 1994), Ekushe Podok (1994) and others.

Humayun Ahmed passed away on July 19, 2012 at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, USA after suffering from colon cancer.
