Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury held a press conference on Friday, a day after presenting the proposed budget of BDT 9 lakh 38 thousand crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year in the National Parliament. At the press conference, held on Friday afternoon at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the Secretariat area of Dhaka, he stated that the proposed budget has been formulated for people of all classes and professions across the country.

The Finance Minister said that despite resource limitations, efforts have been made to bring every citizen of the country under the purview of the budget. In his words, “No one is outside this budget.” Necessary allocations have been made with the aim of bringing the economy into a more democratic framework and including those who were previously outside economic activities.

He referred to this proposed budget, presented three months after the BNP government took office, as an ‘inclusive budget’. He added that over the past decade and a half, the country’s economy was primarily patronage-driven, where specific individuals and groups received special benefits. The current government aims to move away from that trend and ensure everyone’s participation in the economy.

The Finance Minister further stated that despite limited resources, the budget has been prepared considering the interests of all people in the country, so that the benefits of development and economic opportunities can reach all strata of society.

The Finance Minister said that the biggest responsibility of a democratic government is to ensure accountability, and the government is proceeding with that principle.

On this day, the Finance Minister arrived at the press conference at 3:10 PM. To his right sat Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, and to his left, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku.

Among others present at the press conference were Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain, Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid, Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon, State Minister for Planning Junaid Saki, Prime Minister’s Advisor Mahdi Amin, Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Advisor Rehan Asif Asad, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister A B M Abdus Sattar, Cabinet Secretary Dr. Nasimul Ghani, Bangladesh Bank Governor Md.
