A sudden heavy downpour on Wednesday afternoon smashed the normal life of the city dwellers.
The rain began pouring down around 1:30pm and continued for one and half an hours.
Commuters, especially the students of schools and colleges, underwent sufferings following traffic gridlock as streets in a number of areas, including Mouchak, Malibagh, Shantinagar, Motijheel, Mirpur and parts of Old Dhaka, were inundated.
Roads and lanes adjacent to the under-construction Mouchak-Moghbazar flyover turned muddy and slippery due to the rain, intensifying the pedestrians' woes.
Rickshaw-pullers were seen struggling to carry passengers due to potholes created on different roads due to stagnant water for long.
Ruhul Kuddus, a meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, said they recorded 23.6 mm of rainfall in the capital from 12:00pm to 3:00pm.
