Staff Correspondent:Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh on Friday staged a protest in Dhaka and Chittagong, demanding the dismissal of a statue of Greek goddess from Supreme Court premises.
Several thousand Hefazat supporters attended the protest at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque gate shortly after the jumma prayers, chanting slogans against the installation of the statue.
Bangladesh is a country of 92 per cent Muslim population. Here any idol in countrys highest court premises is not acceptable, said Junaid Al Habib, a joint secretary general of Hefazat central committee told bd24live.com.
If the idol is not withdrawn without delay, we will declare tougher programme in future, Azizul Islam, a leader of the group, said in a similar protest held in Chittagong.
The statue of Themis, the Greek Goddess of Justice holding a scale and a sword, was erected on the Supreme Court premises in December.
