LMG weapon found in Sylet river

Sylhet Correspondent: An angler has found a light machine gun (LMG) while he was fishing in the Kushiara River at Chandarpur village in Golapganj upazila of Sylhet.

Shahid Ahmed, son of late Jamal Uddin of Chandarpur village, was catching fish sitting on the bank of the river yesterday morning.

At one stage, he felt that something heavy was stuck with the fishhook.

Later, he lifted up the rod and found an old and rusty LMG hanging from his fishhook instead of fish.

On information, police recovered the LMG, said officer-in-charge of Golapganj Police Station AKM Fazlul Hoque Shibli.

The firearm might have been used during the 1971 Liberation War, the OC added.
