Songs became an integral part of Christmas, the greatest celebration of Christians commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. Christians around the world sing Christmas carols and songs in praise of Jesus Christ. Christmas songs brighten the joy of the Christians during the Christmas season.
The songs sung in chorus during the Christmas is called ‘Christmas Carols’. In western countries generally, children sing Christmas Carols door to door. ‘Jingle Bells’ is one of the most famous Christmas carols to children.
Christians in Bangladesh also sing Christmas songs. They go door to door and sing carols playing local musical instruments. Landlords give them gifts or money which they distribute among poor or have the friendly feast.
Many lyricists wrote songs on Christmas which are being sung as carols. Besides, they also use songs of other foreign languages translating them into their own languages maintaining the composition. Most of the recent composers follow the Western tradition in composition music for Christmas songs.
Renowned Bangladeshi lyricist Mahbubul A Khalid also penned songs on various religious festivals irrespective of caste, creed, and religions including Christmas. His Christmas songs ‘Borodin Borodin, Shuvo Borodin’ and ‘Ajke Borodin’ have drawn many appreciations. The songs have been published on the website of Khalidsangeet Besides, his song ‘Borodin Borodin, Shuvo Borodin’ has also been released on YouTube.
Young composer Atikur Rahman Roman composed the music of ‘Borodin Borodin, Shuvo Borodin’ in which Putul rendered her voice. Popular composer Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul tuned the other Christmas song ‘Ajke Borodin’ while Mehedi Hasan and Saran gave their voice.
The main feature of Mahbubul A Khalid’s songs is to highlight the aspects of human rights for which his songs deal with the themes of the sufferings of the human being, their possibilities, social awareness, religious and social festivals of all religions along with other human-welfare issues.
