More than 400 accused over arson attack in Langadu upazila

More than 400 people were accused of charges of attacking and torching 100 houses and cottages in Langadu upazila following the killing of a Jubo League leader, reports UNB.

 

Dulal, sub-inspector of Langadu Police Station, recorded the case accusing 15 named and around 400 unnamed people on Friday night, said Mominul Islam, officer-in-charge of the police station.

 

In the meanwhile, police also detained seven people in regard with the arson attack.

 

On Thursday, Nurul Islam Nayan, organising secretary of upazila Jubo League who used to carry passengers on his motorcycle in exchange for money, was found dead by a road in Dighinala upazila.

 

After that incident, the Bangalee settlers went on the rampage while heading towards the graveyard along with the body of Nayan for burial from the upazila headquarters on Friday.

 

They set fire to over 100 houses in the upazila headquarters and several villages, including Manikjorchhara and Tintila, he said, adding that four people were injured in the arson attack.

 

A panic situation is still prevailing among people in the area.

 

To avert further problem and sufferings,the local administration settled section 144 in the upazila while the patrol of Army and Border Guard Bangladesh was beefed up.
