Next general polls would be held in EVM system

The ruling Awami League seeks for use of Electronic Voting System in the next general election scheduled in 2019.

Obaidul Quader, general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League on Saturday said at a programme in the city that his party had called on the Election Commission to open EVM system for voting in the next general elections.

While opening the national conference on the class 4th employees at Kazi Bashir Uddin Auditorium in the capital, Quader also the road transport and bridge minister, said that the EVM is a modern system, so the chance of mistakes happening in the system would be less.

So, the election would be held in this system, the counting would be mistake less and neutral, Quader said.

Without mentioning the name of the BNP, he said that when the government wants to take any good step, they always oppose the step, Quader demanded.

The EC will take decision either they would introduce the EVM system or not but we have told the EC that Awami League favour the system.

The information and communication adviser to the prime minister Sajeeb Wajed Joy had proposed for using EVM system in the election and we have supported it, Quader added.

The central leaders of the party Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Dhaka City leader Shahe Alam Murad and others spoke at the opening session of the conference.
