Sports Desk: Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim was alert and feeling fine after being taken to hospital on Monday after being struck in the back of the helmet by a bouncer from Tim Southee on the final day of the first Test against New Zealand.
He has been cleared of any serious injury after undergoing X-rays on his neck at Wellington Hospital.
A team spokesman said Mushfiqur was given the all clear after undergoing X-rays on his neck at Wellington Hospital, and was waiting to be discharged by doctors.
In distressing scenes, Mushfiqur lay on his back on the Basin Reserve pitch for 10-15 minutes after he ducked into a Southee bouncer which struck him on the back of the helmet around 12.10pm.
He still appeared to be conscious and was attended immediately by medical staff from both teams and advertising hoardings were then shifted to allow an ambulance to drive onto the field.
With concern shown by both teams, Mushfiqur was put on a stretcher in a neck brace and carried into the ambulance which drove him to nearby Wellington Hospital, and play resumed immediately afterwards.
Tamim Iqbal, who was with the Bangladesh captain while he was receiving first aid on the field, said: "He is fine. He spoke to us. He has been taken for precaution."
Television reported the wicketkeeper was talking and had told them to tell his family in Bangladesh he was OK.
