Nor�wester kills 10 in Gaibandha

At least 10 persons were killed and over 100 persons injured when a violent Nor�wester lashed over the district yesterday afternoon.

Deputy commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin said a sudden gust of wind started
yesterday at 2.45 pm and it lasted half an hour.

Due to nor wester, many dwelling houses, standing crops were damaged and
a large number of trees were also uprooted in all the seven upazilas of the
district.

Electricity connections had been cut off in many places till 11 pm.

The victims are identified as Munir(05), son of Hiru Miah of Horinsingha
village under sadar upazila, Sahara Begum(41), wife of Mithu Miah at
Dhondhoni village under Sadar upazila, Joshna Rani(55), wife of Khagendra
Chandra at Rifaetpur village under sadar upazila, Arzina Begum (28), wife of
Rizu Miah at Bashudebpur village under sadar upazila, Hafez Uddin(65), son of
late Barek Miah at Dakatiachar village under Fulchhari upazila, Shimuli
Begum(26), wife of Bishu Miah at Katlamari village under Fulchhari upazila,
Mamata Begum(65), wife of Abdul Kader at Kumedpur village under Palashbari
upazila, Jahanara Begum(50), wife of Eunus Ali at Bakerpara under Palashbari
upazila, Abdur Gaffar(42), son of Abbas Uddin at Mostafapur village under
Palashbari upazila and Moyna Begum(47), wife of Solayman Ali at Kishamat
Holdia village under Sundarganj upazila of the district.

District Relief and Rehabilitation officer AKM Eddris Ali said, actual
assessment of losses caused by norwester was not found so far.

DC Abdul Matin told the BSS that, he had instructed the UNOs of seven
upazila to report the amount of damage in each upazila as early as possible.

Primarily, some of the victim families were given Taka 10,000 each by the
district administration, he added.
