Police on Tuesday fenced off a one-kilometer area in Rajpara of Rajshahi city, and searching for extremists at suspected extremists’ dens at Tultulipara, Haragram, Purbapara and Court College areas in the city.

Witnesses said that the law enforcers have also bounded the entrance and exit of local residents and media in the area since morning.

Additional superintendent of police bureau investigation Tauhidul Arif said that the members of detective branch of police and PBI, counter-terrorism and transnational crime unit and special weapon and tactic team are jointly conducting the raids.

‘We are conducting search at the areas after getting information of suspicious activities by some tenants. The drive is also a part of anti-extremism and awareness campaign,’ RMP senior assistant commissioner Ifte Khair Alam told New Age.

Police have been conducting frequent raids to curb extremism across the country, since an attack at Gulshan cafe in the capital last year, when a total of 20 hostages, including 17 foreigners, were killed.
