Staff Correspondent: A six-member search committee has been formed for the reconstitution of a new Election Commission (EC), said President Abdul Hamid�s Press Secretary Joynal Abedin.
A cabinet official said the cabinet division has received a letter from Bangabhaban in this connection. He said the authorities are working to issue a notification in view of the letter.
However, the names of the committee members have not been disclosed yet.
President Abdul Hamid held his first discussion with Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on 18 December 2016 as a part of his initiatives to hold formal talks over the reconstitution of the EC.
The president has so far held talks with a total of 31 political parties including the ruling Awami League, Jatiya Party (Ershad).
During the talks, the political parties separately placed a series of proposals and most of them proposed enacting a law for the EC formation.
The tenure of Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed will come to an end in February.
