Shah Rukh Khan breaks Republic Day record

Entertainment Desk:After all the hype that the clash between Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Raees and Hrithik Roshans Kaabil have generated, the public opinion has started coming in via the box office. Raees, also starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Mahira Khan, has taken a solid lead at the box office. While its Wednesday numbers stood at an impressive Rs 20.42 crore, Thursday being the Republic Day holiday gave a further boost to its winning run at the ticket windows and the film earned a record-breaking Rs 26.3 crore.

The film released on about 2700 screens and has earned a total of Rs 46.72 crore in two days at the box office. This makes Raees the highest earner ever on a Republic Day. Till now, the record belonged to Salman Khans Jai Ho with Rs 25 crore earned on R-Day in 2014.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh earlier shared, #Raees is PHENOMENAL on Day 2. All set to pack a FAB total in its 5-day weekend. Wed 20.42 cr, Thu 26.30 cr. Total: ? 46.72 cr. India biz. Shah Rukh had replied to Tarans tweet and said,

Raees is doing well overseas as well including key overseas markets such as the US, the Gulf, UK and Australia, the film has managed to wow the audience. In fact, according to Forbes, Shah Rukhs gangster saga earned $347,000 on 247 screens in the US on day one while day two numbers are still awaited. With this, Raees has beaten Dangal, which earned $328,227 on day one in the US. In the UK as well, Raees managed to trump Dangal by earning 126,000 to Dangals 121,000.

Meanwhile, the film is getting audiences love despite mixed reviews. With its first weekend stretching over fives days, the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer is expected to enter Rs 100-crore club easily. With its first day earning, Raees has already entered Shah Rukhs top 5 earners. It is the fourth biggest earner of the actors career. Happy New Years Rs 44.97 crore ($6.7 million), Chennai Express Rs 33.1 crore ($4.9 million) and Dilwales Rs 21 crore ($3.1 million) are the three films ahead of Raees.
