Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has stated that stabilizing the country’s fragile economy and subsequently advancing it towards prosperity is the biggest challenge of the current budget.
He made this remark while speaking to journalists after a cabinet committee meeting on the provision of Family Cards, held on Monday (June 15) at the conference room of the Ministry of Finance.
The Finance Minister said that, considering the country’s economic situation, the government is taking measures to ensure that the livelihoods of low-income people are not negatively affected. Concurrently, the Family Card program is being launched with the aim of gradually enabling them to become self-reliant.
He informed that the government is giving special importance to the Family Card program to make social protection activities more effective and targeted for low-income communities. It is hoped that through this, beneficiaries will not only receive necessary assistance but also be able to improve their economic conditions.
Meanwhile, Social Welfare Minister Abu Zafor Md. Zahid Hossain announced that the concerned cabinet committee has finalized the draft of the Family Card Implementation Policy-2026.
He stated that to ensure transparency and accountability of the program, its activities will be evaluated every six months by a third party. This will ensure that genuine beneficiaries receive proper assistance and that there is no scope for any irregularities.
The Social Welfare Minister further added that no political individuals or parties will be involved in the implementation of the Family Card program. District Commissioners and other relevant government officials will manage the entire operation.
The government hopes that this new initiative will further strengthen the social security system and play a significant role in improving the living standards of economically disadvantaged communities.
