Begum Zia’s funeral was completed in public

The national funeral of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was completed amid the tears of millions of people.

The funeral was held on Wednesday (31 December) at 3:30 PM at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital. Khatib Mufti Abdul Malek of National Mosque Baitul Mukarram led the funeral prayers.

Janazay chief adviser Dr. Members of the advisory council including Muhammad Yunus, leaders of various political parties, foreign diplomats, dignitaries and common people from all walks of life participated.

From this morning, lakhs of people from different parts of the country, including the capital, flocked to the funeral ground and its surrounding areas to bid their last farewell to the beloved leader. Beyond Manik Mia Avenue, the crowd extends to Khamarbari, Asadgate and Farmgate areas.

BNP top leaders and family members gave speeches in memory of the beloved leader before the funeral.

Even though the funeral ceremony was over through tight security, people were still mourning. After the funeral, when the hearse left for the funeral, thousands of people standing on both sides of the road could be seen raising their hands and praying. Through this janaza, a colorful and long chapter of Bangladesh’s politics was officially bid farewell.

It should be noted that Khaleda Zia was undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital since November 23. Khaleda Zia’s condition in ICU is very critical and she is passing critical moment. Doctors declared him dead at 6 am on Tuesday (December 30). He was 80 years old.
