Hinting at Jamaat-e-Islami, BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that leaders of a “secret political party” are lecturing others on various issues. He suggested they should first look into their own affairs.

He made these remarks at a rally held on Thursday (October 1) in the Ghatghar Muhuri Bridge area of Parshuram, Feni, on the occasion of inaugurating the ‘Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control’ project.

Tarique Rahman said, “Leaders of a secret political party are lecturing us—telling us ‘do this,’ ‘do that.’ Today, in front of thousands, even millions of people here, I want to tell them: please, first look at your own homes. First, address how your own people are committing violence against women. Only then should you come to tell others what to do.”

He added, “Some of their members are committing violence against women. An investigation is underway, so I will not comment further. However, people say that one of their leaders not only committed violence but also ended a person’s life.”

Further alluding to Jamaat, the Prime Minister stated that they won some seats in the February 12 election by misleading people. He accused them of subsequently “considering themselves above all” and conspiring to create anarchy in the country.

Referring to Jamaat’s role in 1971, Tarique Rahman said that everyone knows what their role was then and how they tortured mothers and sisters. He alleged that they have now again chosen the path of anarchy and violence against women.

Regarding the ‘Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control’ project, the Prime Minister mentioned that the area experienced a major flood two to two and a half years ago, during which water flowed over this bridge. He stated that this government initiative was undertaken to prevent such floods, adding that it is part of their electoral promises.
