Party Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmad said that those who have submitted their nomination papers as substitutes for late BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s three seats will be the party’s candidates.

He said this while talking to the media at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in the capital’s Gulshan on Thursday (January 1).

Salahuddin Ahmad said that there is no opportunity to postpone or postpone the election due to the death of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, “There is no opportunity in the law.” If such an incident happened after the selection and allotment of symbols, the question of postponement could have arisen due to legal complications.

But now that is not the case. He did not exist (died) before selection. Legally, he no longer exists as a legal entity. That is why his nomination paper will not survive the selection.

In that case, if the nomination of the alternate candidate survives, they will be the candidates.

On postponing or canceling the election, he said, there is no scope in the law and there is no provision for postponing the election. Usually after nomination validation and allotment of symbols such an incident would have caused the election to be postponed due to legal complications. But now that situation is not there.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was supposed to be the party’s candidate from Feni-1, Bogra-7 and Dinajpur-3 constituencies in the next parliamentary elections. However, due to his illness, alternate candidates were nominated by the party for these constituencies. Alternative candidates were Rafiqul Alam Majnu in Feni-1 seat, Morshed Alam in Bogra-7 seat and Syed Jahangir Alam in Dinajpur-3 seat. After the death of Khaleda Zia, they will contest the elections as candidates of BNP in these constituencies.

When asked about the mental condition of party acting chairman Tarek Rahman, he said, our leader Tarek Rahman is a political figure.

He has to be strong-willed – there is no alternative. No matter how much grief there is, he must remain strong for the sake of the nation.
