At least 40 people have been killed and 8 others injured after an overloaded passenger bus lost control and plunged into a deep gorge in southwestern Pakistan.

The accident occurred on Friday (July 3) morning in the remote Dana Sar area, bordering Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces.

Shaheed Rind, a spokesperson for the Balochistan government, stated that the bus veered off the highway and fell into a rocky ravine. He added that the bus was carrying passengers from another broken-down bus in addition to its regular capacity, making it overloaded.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti expressed deep sorrow over the accident. In a statement, he offered condolences to the families of the deceased and instructed the concerned authorities to ensure maximum medical care for the injured.

Currently, rescuers are working to identify the deceased and arrange medical treatment for the injured.

It is worth noting that fatal road accidents are common in Pakistan’s mountainous regions due to poor road conditions, inadequate enforcement of traffic laws, and reckless driving.
