President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for advancements in research and new innovations in modern digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI), nano and biotechnology, and semiconductor sectors for public welfare. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of ensuring that the use of AI is not uncontrolled and indiscriminate.
He made these remarks on Tuesday (September 29) when a delegation led by Professor Dr. Muhammad Masud, Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), paid a courtesy call on the President at Bangabhaban.
The President stated that the uncontrolled use of artificial intelligence is diminishing human thought power and creative talent. Therefore, he said, the use of AI should be moderated to prevent harm to human creativity. He urged ensuring the application of technology for public welfare while also remaining aware that AI should not be used in an uncontrolled manner.
During the meeting, the KUET Vice-Chancellor informed the President about the overall academic activities of the university. Various aspects of the university’s education and academic programs were highlighted.
The President spoke about the necessity of further decentralizing the advanced education system, moving beyond a capital-centric approach. He also emphasized the importance of involving the country’s universities more in national-level research and development (R&D) activities.
In addition to modern digital technology, the President called on relevant stakeholders to come forward with research and new innovations in nano and biotechnology and semiconductor sectors. He stressed the importance of increasing the use of technology for public welfare through research and innovation in these fields.
During the courtesy call, KUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Masud formally invited the President to attend the upcoming convocation ceremony as Chancellor. The President accepted the invitation and assured his presence at the convocation ceremony.
The President’s military secretary, secretary, press secretary, and KUET professors were present during the meeting.
