The Bangladesh men’s cricket team has also advanced to the semi-finals of the Asian Games without playing a match. Liton Das’s team was scheduled to face Malaysia at 11 AM Bangladesh time today. However, the match was called off three and a half hours before its scheduled start. As a result, Bangladesh progressed to the semi-finals due to their higher ranking compared to Malaysia.
Nafis Iqbal, manager of the Bangladesh team, stated, ‘The Games authorities informed us this morning that the match would not take place. Therefore, the team will not proceed to the stadium.’
Yesterday, two quarter-final matches were abandoned due to rain. This morning, the match between Nepal and Sri Lanka was also called off. The decision to cancel Bangladesh’s match was made approximately three hours prior to its start, owing to the unplayable condition of the ground.
Bangladesh is set to face Pakistan in the semi-finals on October 1st. If the weather conditions do not improve, holding the semi-finals within two days will be quite challenging. Bangladesh’s semi-final match is scheduled for October 1st at 9 AM. Should this match also be cancelled, Pakistan will be declared the winner due to their superior ranking, meaning Bangladesh would then compete for the bronze medal.
The Bangladesh women’s cricket team also encountered difficulties due to rain. Their quarter-final match against China was not played because of the inclement weather, and Jyoti’s team directly advanced to the semi-finals.
