Gaza City is reeling under relentless Israeli airstrikes and ground assaults, leaving behind widespread destruction and forcing more than one million Palestinians to flee their homes.
Since Friday night, continuous bombardment and shelling have claimed at least 77 lives, according to local sources. Among them, 47 people were killed in densely populated neighborhoods of northern Gaza alone. In another tragic incident, Israeli forces opened fire on civilians waiting in line for food, killing 11 more.
The humanitarian crisis is worsening by the hour. Many displaced families have sought temporary refuge in makeshift tents at the Nuseirat refugee camp and Deir al-Balah. However, even there, insecurity and acute food shortages persist. Mohammed Malouf, a homeless resident, lamented: “We are left on the streets. We are not even being treated like dogs.”
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has stated that a mass evacuation from Gaza City is neither safe nor realistic, as the southern areas designated as “safe zones” lack adequate food, water, and medical facilities.
Meanwhile, Israel has declared Gaza City a “war zone” and revoked its temporary “tactical pause” for humanitarian aid. As a result, the supply of food and medicine has come to a complete halt.
Analysts warn that Israel’s current offensive is pushing ordinary Palestinians into a catastrophic humanitarian disaster. Children and the elderly are among the worst affected, while the international community continues to call for the urgent establishment of humanitarian corridors.
