Janaza of late BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was completed today at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital. Khatib Mufti Abdul Malek of National Mosque Baitul Mukarram led the funeral.

His eldest son and Acting Chairman of BNP Tariq Rahman gave a speech before the funeral. Since yesterday the expression of deep grief was evident on his face, and today at the funeral, that feeling of pain was more deeply expressed.

Tareeq Rahman did not raise any political issue in the speech. He speaks with the same passion and humility as a normal child speaks at his parents’ funeral.

He said, ‘I am the eldest child of late Begum Khaleda Zia. A request to all the brothers and sisters present here today – if late Begum Khaleda Zia took any loan from any of you during her lifetime, please contact me. Insha Allah, I will arrange to pay it.’

He also added, ‘At the same time, if anyone was hurt by any of his use, any of his words while he was alive, then I apologize to you on behalf of the deceased. Pray, may Allah Ta’ala grant him paradise.’

Today’s funeral was held in the presence of lakhs of people. People flocked from Shahbagh to Mohammadpur centering on Manik Mia Avenue for the janaza.
