Lionel Messi, the owner of countless records, created another unique feat by participating in the 2026 World Cup, becoming the first footballer in the world to play in six World Cups. A day later, Cristiano Ronaldo shared that record. However, Messi once again remained at the center of discussion with his on-field performance, making headlines anew by scoring his first World Cup career hat-trick against Algeria.

Messi will turn 39 in four days, while Ronaldo has already crossed 41. Naturally, questions are arising about their participation in the 2030 World Cup. While there is speculation about Ronaldo playing in the tournament to be held in Portugal, Messi has explicitly ruled out his own involvement.

In an interview with the Argentine media outlet ‘Olé’, Messi stated, “No, there is no possibility of playing a seventh World Cup. I can say that with certainty.”

He also spoke about the secret behind playing at the top level for a long time. In Messi’s words, “I have always remained within football, competed, and tried to give my best. I have kept myself physically prepared so that I can provide maximum help to the team in the World Cup. We have extraordinary players in our team; the competition here is intense—to survive, you have to be in top form. This is our strength.”

The 2030 World Cup will be a special edition in football history, as for the first time, six countries will be involved in its organization to celebrate the centenary of the World Cup. Spain, Portugal, and Morocco will be the main host countries. Additionally, opening matches will be held in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay to mark the centenary.

However, Messi is not thinking too much about the future. He has already achieved almost all major accolades at club, national team, and individual levels. Therefore, he now views every moment as an added bonus.

In his words, “Thank God, I have been able to achieve all major accolades at club, national team, and individual levels. So, everything that comes now is a bonus for me.”

Since winning the Qatar World Cup, new chapters have been added to Messi’s list of achievements. Despite his advancing age, his presence and performance on the field continue to be a focal point of discussion in world football. Recently, this Argentine star secured the top spot in FIFA’s official performance index with the highest rating in the attacking department, following his brilliant hat-trick against Algeria.
