Prime Minister Inaugurates Feni’s ‘Muhuri-Kohua’ Irrigation Project

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated the ‘Rehabilitation of Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project (Phase I),’ undertaken to address Feni’s long-standing problems of flooding and waterlogging.

He inaugurated the project on Thursday (October 1) at noon in the area adjacent to the Kheya Ghat Muhuri Bridge in Parshuram Upazila. Under this project, costing BDT 1,542.16 crore, work will be carried out to improve flood control, water drainage, and irrigation systems.

The project’s name inscribed on the inauguration plaque is ‘Rehabilitation of Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project (Phase I).’ After unveiling the plaque, the Prime Minister planted trees there. He later also inaugurated a river dredging program.

Earlier, upon his arrival at the event venue by road from Dhaka, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Rafiqul Alam Majnu, the BNP Member of Parliament for Feni-1 constituency.

Also present were VP Zainal Abedin, MP for Feni-2; Abdul Awal Mintoo, MP for Feni-3 and Environment Minister; Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Water Resources Minister; State Minister Farhad Hossain Azad; Housing Minister Zakaria Taher; State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin; Rehana Akhter Ranu, Member of Parliament for a reserved women’s seat, along with other district-level leaders.

Earlier, on June 16, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the implementation of the project, with an estimated cost of BDT 1,542.16 crore. The project aims to improve flood control, water drainage, and irrigation systems centered around the Muhuri and Kohua rivers in Feni.
