The government has declared November 7 as ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ and decided to observe it as a public holiday every year. Simultaneously, the day will be included as a ‘Class A’ day in the government gazette related to the celebration of national and international days.

This decision was approved at a cabinet meeting held on Monday (October 5) at the Secretariat, chaired by Prime Minister Tareque Rahman. The matter was announced at a press briefing following the meeting.

According to the cabinet’s decision, from now on, November 7 will be a public holiday every year on the occasion of ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’, and the day will be observed officially by the state.

Meanwhile, changes have also been made to the holiday schedule for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja. The cabinet has approved a proposal for an additional day of public holiday on October 22 (Thursday).

According to the previously announced government holiday list, holidays for Durga Puja were scheduled for October 20 and 21. Although offices were supposed to be open on October 22, the new decision grants a holiday on that day as well. As the following two days, October 23 and 24, are Friday and Saturday respectively, government employees will be able to enjoy a continuous five-day holiday.

As per the new decision, the Durga Puja holiday will be effective from October 20 to 22. However, government offices will remain open on October 17.

This year, the biggest religious festival for Hindus, Durga Puja, will commence with Mahalaya on October 10. Following this, Mahashasthi will be observed on October 16, Mahasaptami on October 18, Mahaashtami on October 19, Mahanavami on October 20, and Bijoya Dashami on October 21.

As a result of this cabinet decision, on one hand, November 7 has received state recognition as a national day, while on the other hand, government employees are getting the opportunity of a continuous five-day holiday centered around Durga Puja.
