Uzbekistan on the Global Financial Stage: Octobank at Sibos Miami 202

The bank sees the international forum in Miami as an opportunity to develop dialogue with foreign financial institutions, payment companies and technology partners

Sibos 2026, a cornerstone international event for the financial industry, is now taking place in Miami and has brought together banks, payment companies, fintech companies and financial infrastructure representatives from all regions of the world. Octobank is attending the forum for the third time in a row, presenting its own solutions and international capabilities, as well as the broader story of the transformation of Uzbekistan’s financial market.

This year, the bank is exhibiting at Sibos with its own 48 sq. m stand, where exhibition and meeting areas are combined. The main focus lies on direct dialogue with international financial institutions and on discussing cooperation opportunities in correspondent banking, cross-border payments, clearing, foreign exchange operations, liquidity management and trade finance.

The concept at the core of Octobank’s international communication is:

“Uzbekistan — the New Silk Road of Digital Finance”

In history, the Silk Road served to connect countries and markets through trade. Today, this role is increasingly assumed by financial infrastructure, payment networks, technology and direct relationships between banks and other financial institutions.

For Octobank, Sibos represents an opportunity to bring this idea out of positioning and into practical business dialogue.

“Participation in SIBOS allows us to discuss cooperation directly with international partners. We see reciprocal interest in working with Octobank and are ready to respond to it with concrete proposals — digital solutions, expertise and experience in working with business. We expect that the dialogue started here will soon continue in joint projects,” noted Hamid Jumaev, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of Octobank.

Uzbekistan’s Place on the International Financial Map Is Growing

Octobank’s participation in Sibos comes at a time of substantial change in Uzbekistan’s economy and financial sector. The rise of international trade, the development of the digital economy and the growth of cross-border business activity are creating new demands on banking infrastructure. Uzbek companies need broader access to international settlements, foreign exchange operations and payment instruments, while foreign financial institutions need reliable partners who can support their operations on the local market. Octobank has been developing this area consistently. As of September 2026, the bank’s assets are approximately USD 1.66 billion, it serves a client base of more than 4.9 million people, and its international infrastructure consists of relationships with 19 correspondent banks and cooperation with more than 30 financial institutions.

As one of its priorities for further development, the bank points to the expansion of international settlement capabilities, including operations in US dollars, euros and Chinese yuan.

This means that, for Octobank, participation in Sibos is linked to more than brand promotion. The focus is on developing the practical infrastructure needed for Uzbekistan’s further integration into the international financial system.

From Stand Visits to Concrete Business Relationships

The concept of Octobank’s stand is devised to bring together business and image-building aspects. A separate negotiation zone is provided for meetings with representatives of international banks, payment organizations and technology companies. Specific areas of potential cooperation are addressed there, from correspondent relationships and clearing to cross-border payments and foreign exchange operations. The open part of the stand, at the same time, introduces Sibos participants not only to Octobank, but also to modern Uzbekistan. The stand is decorated with national motifs, and guests are offered traditional Uzbek sweets and commemorative gifts. Thus, meeting the bank for the first time also becomes a first meeting with the country and its culture. This is consistent with the overall logic of Octobank’s international positioning: first acquaint the global financial community with the opportunities of modern Uzbekistan, then present the bank’s role in its financial system, and then shift to a substantive business conversation.

Central Asia Opens New Financial Routes

For many years, Central Asia was seen by the international financial community primarily as a region of remittances and commodity trade. However, the economy’s structure is gradually changing. The development of e-commerce, the expansion of foreign trade, the emergence of new technology companies and the growing international engagement of local businesses are creating demand for more sophisticated financial infrastructure. What is at stake now is not only remittances, but also direct interbank relationships, international clearing, foreign exchange operations, digital payments and services for companies operating in several markets simultaneously. This gives Uzbekistan the opportunity to gradually take on a more prominent role in the financial flows between Central Asia, Asia, the Middle East and Europe. Octobank regards the development of international banking relationships as one of the tools of this process. This is precisely why the bank’s main objective at Sibos is not simply to be present among the largest players in the global financial industry, but to establish new working connections within this system.

Sibos: Where Further Cooperation Begins

Sibos 2026 brings more than 10,000 participants from over 160 countries together in Miami. Central themes of this year’s discussions are the development of digital finance, artificial intelligence, cross-border payments and the future of global financial infrastructure. For Octobank, the main result of its participation should not be the number of visitors to the stand or the number of brand mentions, but the continuation of the dialogue after the forum.

The bank intends to turn the negotiations begun in Miami into further work with international financial institutions, payment companies and technology partners. Sibos is thus becoming part of the bank’s longer-term international development strategy. Octobank aims not only to tell foreign audiences about Uzbekistan’s transformation, but also to form practical international connections that become evidence of this transformation. This is the main idea behind the bank’s presence in Miami: the historical Silk Road connected countries through trade. The modern Silk Road is being shaped more and more by payments, technology and financial infrastructure.
